should she take the saxophone solo?

My friend made Maine All State this year for saxophone. She was accepted into the band, but then the orchestra needed a soloist. She wants to know if she should take the solo and be bored for the rest of rehearsals, or stick with playing with the band. She’d get to play more with the band, but having the solo would be cool! What should she do?

Answer #1

Try the solo see if she enjoys it - can always return to the other…Take care !!

Answer #2

As a son to be music teacher, I would tell your friend to do whatever it is that makes her happy. Tell Her to try the solo, If she doesnt think she can handle it or she would rather just play with the band that the Director will undersstand. To be in a all state band is a high honor, but to have a solo is an even bigger honor. It will show Music Directors and Professors of Music that she can take the stress of being a soloist performer. Either way its up too her and to do either is deemed worthy by Music Professors.
