What exactly is scientology and how would one find a way to “join”?

Answer #1

agreed with arachnid(beat me to it XP, lol 1_~) Each level cost hundreds of dollars, at the least anyways. It’s not for the poor people or people of middle class. Also, it was made mostly ofr money. He clearly stated before he made the “religion” “If you want to make real money, start a religion” so he did. Some of you big time celebrities are scientologist

As whacky as it sounds, it is not anymore ludicrous as any other religious belief. It is just that we are more used to hearing about the others. Look at LDS, they think that north america had an ancient jewish civilization along with native americans, and that christ came here after his death. That’s pretty whacky stuff too…

Scientology is a cult started by L Ron Hubbard, a science fiction writer. According to scientologists, 75 million years ago, there was a creature called “Xenu”, the dictator of a “Galactic confederacy”, who apparrently had an overpopulation problem. He shipped billions of his citizens to earth, paralyzed them, stacked them like cordwood around volcanoes, then blew the volcanoes up with hydrogen bombs. Why he couldn’t just throw them out the airlock, I don’t know. The spirits of these creatures are called ‘thetans’ still hang around today (so they say), inhabiting innocent human beings. The aim of scientology is to become ‘clear’, or free of these ‘thetans’.

Not surprisingly, they wait to tell people about this until they’re thoroughly embedded in the scientology cult, because to anyone who isn’t, it’s obviously totally_insane.

Scientology attracts people by offering “free stress tests”, which invariably show you’re stressed - so they offer you some books on how to reduce your stress. And those lead to membership, and mandatory courses that increase your “level” in the scientology organisation, while costing more and more for each level. Gradually they introduce “thetans” and the story of Xenu.

Scientology has also been involved with some fairly serious issues, such as the case of a scientologist who died while under their ‘care’, attempts to infiltrate the IRS, and attempts to discredit their critics and even have them committed to mental institutions.

As far as how to join… please, please don’t.
