How do I get rid of the nasty crap in my nose quickly and effectively?

I hate blowing my nose and that’s the only part of my cold that’s left.

Answer #1

Steam (boil some water, put a towel over your head and the boiled water, dont get burnt or suffocated). Or the expectorant medication.

Answer #5

It’s easier with potatoes, to boil them, and then do the towel thing. Plus, you can eat them later.

Answer #6

Lol I love your answers. I’ve never heard of the potato thing.. I was gonna say a spoonful of Vicks vapour rub in the boiling water. And make sure you shut your eyes :L you can also get it in concentrated oil form. Just a couple’a drops in there and you’re gooood

Answer #7

Adding to ty’s answer, add a drop or two (just a drop or two, not more) of eucalyptus oil, that’ll also help with the stuffiness.

Answer #8

Get a saline nasal spray, that should actually keep all the nasty stuff out for longer. It’s uncomfortable to use at first, but it really works.

Answer #9

“It’s easier with potatoes, to boil them, and then do the towel thing. Plus, you can eat them later.” familiar method))

Answer #10

Use a Neti Pot. Or Netti Pot? They give you packets of dried saline to add to warm water that you mix in the container and then you flush the water solution through your nostrils. You do it until the water runs out the other side. I know you can get them at WholeFoods, and maybe other healthfood stores. Not sure about typical pharmacies.

Answer #11

I was going to suggest this but you beat me to it.

Rinsing sinuses with saline solution works amazingly well. It is great for anyone with sinus congestion due to infections or allergies. In fact for people with bad allergies it can literally change their life.

In addition to neti pots there are large syringes sold for the same purpose. I use a neti pot but I hear some people say the syringes are more thorough.
