How to recover from a dislocated shoulder?

Yesterday, I dislocated my shoulder after throwing a pitch. It hurt, obviously, but my coach popped back in in no time. I’m going to see the team’s trainer today to see what see recommends and see what she has in store for me, but I’m wondering if anyone here has ever dislocated their shoulder and gone back to playing a sport. I just want to know what is in my future.

Well, time - for one - is your best healer, but physiotherapy will get you back into shape quicker. Hopefully, your trainer will direct you to a good local physiotherapist, but, if not, there is a great step-by-step healing schedule on this site that could be useful to you: http://funadvice.com/r/bpp6rvmpd6n

The connective tissue between your arm and your shoulder will need time to heal and get over the shock of dislocation. You may spend several (maybe three or seven) weeks in physical therapy. That’s close to the worst-case tho. I would bet you’ll be out of the game for 3 weeks with a pitching dislocation, with proper treatment.
