I’ve only encountered a total of SIX on this site. And THREE of which, left out of embarrassment & disgust for how their beliefs were being represented by others.

Where do you get your Stats from? On the other side; Most Atheists/Agnostics were religious once, but not by choice, more by force! We chose to believe the fact that earth is millions or billions years old and we chose not to believe in non-factual scripts. Christians wish to tell themselves that Atheists are not capable of understanding your religion, where in fact, we do understand all, WE JUST DO NOT BELIEVE IN IT. Now if, there were no contradictions in the bible and evidence available that such god exists, it would have been a different story! Innocent religious and non religious people die in cruel ways daily, if that is the evidence of gods existence, surely you guys can understand why we do not believe in any?

This comment by itself just shows how much disrespect you have for a non-believer.

It is not a decision. It is a deduction, based on a lack of evidence. Should I have respect for your decision not to accept Santa Claus? You talk to us as if we really do believe, but are just choosing to not “accept” god. Stop talking to us like that, and maybe you would be taken more seriously.

Respect comes from tolerance & mutual understanding…evangelical religions (ALL of them) lack understanding, respect or tolerance for those who think differently.

Fact is: if you expect somebody to respect you belief system, you must respect theirs…which also means that you should understand, if you truly believe, most everything about your system of beliefs.

If an unbeliever knows more about your religion than you do…it’s faith based on ignorance, not understanding, which is both dangerous & stupid.

Try reading the 1st ammendment: Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;

It means our government cannot make any laws promoting religion, nor can they make laws prohibiting the practice of religion. That is separation of church and state. Here is how Jefferson described the first amendment to the danbury baptist church:

Oh and our mommy and daddy’s did make us…try taking them out of the picture and see if you would have been born at all.

I think Opinions are worth to hear even if they aren’t always the best opinion, but if people put more of they’re thoughts down then just putting down basic answers like “Yes I believe or No I do not believe”, it makes the person that read the opinion think more about it, even though they may disagree, yes some people are insulting and can be a little more polite about it, but it’s also the way people read what the person put down, because sometimes things can sound different then the way the person meant to write it as.

Does that Make sense? I hope so.

I could ask you the same thing. Just like you have the right to defend your beliefs we have the same exact rights. Im an Athiest but I have never put down a Christian Unlike y’all who go around saying were going to hell. Face it we’re both wrong. As long as we keep “categorizing” humanbeings into believers and non-believers, respect, my friend, will be absent.

There is no such a thing as OTHER. Atheists are NOT others. They are as human as everyone else is. If Christians think that non-believers are bad, lemme tell everyone here that non-believers are not any worse than any one of us, Christians and Muslims. If they believe that God does not exist, religious people believe in things which are equally absurd.. for eg. clergy, luck and envy.

When we, Christians and Muslims, do the right thing, we shall have the right to blame the miseries of the world on Athiests.

You expect tolerance, but show so little of it for those who are different from you.

Here’s an idea- how about you start looking at the undesirable in yourself that needs changing, before you try blaming others for their shortcomings. Set an example in yourself. Practise what you preach, otherwise you are nothing but a hypocrite.

In the heat of an argument sometimes things get out of hand but respect is a 2 way street. I don’t think the things atheists on the board have said about believers are any worse than things believers have said about atheists.

There are some devout Christians here that I am friends with while there are others who can never get past our differences. That’s life.

…the whole thing seemed wrong. I know more about the bible than my dad, who attempted to convert me for decades before after enough arguing & yelling finally decided to let it go.

Fact is: if you tortured a religious person the same way (eg, took a Christian to a devil worshipping sermon weekly) then you’d probably be put in jail for child endangerment, or have your kids taken away & be deemed an unfit parent.

So…why is it simply becuase the dominant religion that it’s OK to shove it down our throats? People were up in arms over the president not attending the national day of prayer, where we are bound by the constitution to have separation of church & state.

Why do Christians tell me, repeatedly, Jesus birthday was the 25th of December…when it’s fiction, completely made up by a pope in the 3rd century and in reality it’s Buddha’s birthday?

Tell me: if you have faith, do you celebrate Jesus birthday on Christmas, or do you boycott & protest your local church for getting their facts wrong & making the organization look silly?

I think multitudes will be shocked by who makes the cut in the end. There are people who don’t believe yet who will change in the twinkling of an eye by the transforming of their mind. There will be the “so-called believer” who thinks they are devout, who will be left behind for falling short of the grand plan.
