The program is safe for download, and it’s legal. The problems come along when you are downloading content, as any p2p network has a level of risk involved. Since you are downloading content from other users - not the site, itself - you can run into viruses and other harmful malware.
I used to use it before, I never had any problems I just personally did not like it. But no problems.
