What's a printer spooler that's not running mean?

okay im having problems with my printer, it was fine a few days ago and now whenever I try to print something it just keeps saying ‘’print spooler is not running’’. Does anyone have a clue about what that is?

There is most likely a Print Spooler service on your computer. You haven’t stated what Operating System, printer type, or computer type.
