In addition to that, everyone knows the government in general is inefficient, you’re not telling us something new, so it’s just bad rhetoric on your part. The government should only intervene where market failure occurs. Market failure has clearly occurred in this instance, if you hadn’t realised, the global financial system almost collapsed, and it was due to an absence of regulation, and nothing else, causing suffering to millions of people. The government intervenes in many areas already. Road building, police provision and suchlike. Or maybe you would be more satisfied if that was left to the market too?

“When the government takes over private business…becomes the CEO of everything from cars to insurance to banks…dictates saleries and pay for the workers, decides on the leadership in said “privately owned” companies…then in reality they are no longer private.”

These are only happening in exceptional situations, due to the exceptional circumstances, they’re not intended to be permanent, nor do those things apply to the whole economy.

I feel sorry for Democrats who come up against this nonsense on a day to day basis. It really doesn’t stand up to scrutiny, any sense of logic.

phrannie, nice commentary… Too bad it is not true. Profit motive does not always lead to efficiency. Look at health care. The administrative costs of running medicare (a government run program) is a small fraction of the cost and overhead associated with private health insurance. And businesses are spending the peoples money. Where do there profits come from? Consumers, the people.

The free market works great in some areas, and the government does things better in others. Constantly making claims like “Government has proved itself to be incapable of managing it’s own business” does not make it true. It also depends on who is at the helm. Bush/Cheney were incompetents who ran the government and country into bankruptcy. Clinton reduced the deficit and created a surplus budget.

So all governments are not equal…

Government has proved itself to be incapable of managing it’s own business (wasted bucks way above and beyond ANYTHING one would see in the private sector)…which of course is because the private sector is spending it’s OWN money, not other people’s money. Anything the Government touches ends up costing not 2 times more, or even 10 times more…but 100 times more…

At this juncture, I say “reform” would be putting government back to “governing”, and leave business to those who know something about it.

“socialism [is] based on the principle that the goods and services produced in an economy should be owned publicly and controlled and planned by a centralized organization”

Can you please enlighten me and explain how that is happening in the US. What is happening, from what I can tell, is that there’s a shift to the left towards a planned economy. Bearing in mind there’s no such thing is pure capitalism in reality, and that all the economies of the world that we refer to as capitalist have a mixture of government intervention and a market economy. So please fill me in, or is it as I suspect a bunch of Republican paranoia at anything to the left of Mussolini.

Unfortunately, policies have been put in force that place this nation in a trend towards Socialism. I believe No American should support policies that take it the direction of a Socialist State - too many have paid the ultimate price for our freedom, prosperity, and a 200 yr old successful free-enterprise system. As this is Memorial Day, let us all remember in thought and prayer those who served, are serving, and those who paid the ultimate price and their families. May God continue to richly Bless America !!
