What are your political views?

So I’m at work, and really bored. I miss the days when I could find a chatroom at yahoo, and randomly meet intelligent people. That’s not so easy anymore; I’m not even sure if they have chatrooms. And icq was fun too, you could just meet people from your area who were interested in the same things that you were. I don’t want to give the wrong impression, I work at a Holiday Inn Express, and it’s very slow today, I’m not slacking off. I’m a senior in at a university majoring in English and minoring in journalism. Summers are boring. Let me think of a question to ask, or else this “asking of advice” will have been for nothing.. Let’s see.. what are your (whoever may read this) political views? Not advice, maybe, but a chance to air your opinions? What are your views on g-a-y (the real word seems to be banned.) marriage, capital punishment, or civil rights (which, we may sweep under the rug, but is still an issue, even now)? I hope I get some responses, I really am bored.

I’m with you on the liberal stance. I’m a heterosexual female who believes in equal rights for ALL. I also recently took a class (it was advanced composition, but my teacher was a morbid liberal!!) which really made me question my beliefs and my values on things like gay marriage. I understand what the issue is, wanting equality and respect, as all human beings are entitled. The problems with conservatives is their opposition to change. And the Bible, let me say. I’m athiest, and while the Bible provides me with some good entertainment, I hardly plan to live my life by it. Those conservatives are sticking to it, instead of adopting an open mind. You’re right, too, that action needs to be taken for more action to take place. That’s just the way it is. Luckily, gay marriage is legal in some states and even other countries. Change happens, it just takes a couple decades to really see it. Anyway, I really enjoyed reading your post. I’ll try to figure out how to add you as a friend!

LOL I get like that all the time. I took a moral philosophy class toward the end of last year and we discussed all those issues and more. It’s always fascinating to get others’ ideas and opinions on things. As for politics: I’m a steadfast liberal! I’m a democrat and darn proud of it. Being gay the issue of marriage and equal rights has always been on my mind. Marriage is important to many folks, heterosexual or homosexual, but more importantly gay people want respect, recognition and the same rights as married heterosexual couples. I’ve posted on my myspace blog a number of times about issues like this. Liberals and conservatives can debate the moral, ethical, or constitutionality of gay rights and marriage, capital punishment, war, poverty, religion (I’m an agnostic) or the endless list of other problems we’re faced with, but ultimately I think we have to begin some action–debate and arguments have gone on long enough. There’s been a lot of progress in recent years in this country about acceptance and tolerance but as with any other country, work is still pending. I always love a good debate with a solid conservative, lol. Anyway, good post and hopefully people will begin to open up more to this. :) -S

My word you must be bored. Once apon a time I ran around the Yahoo and ICQ rooms myself(This is where I met hubby) but as you say there is not much around these days.. If your really bored you could go to ww.da-bratz.com (jokes, humor, practical jokes, pictures) As for my political views thats certainly a touchy subject over here in Australia at the moment. All candidate members as just as bad as each other. Views on homersexual, if thats your preference then go for it. Its not who you sleep with or prefer its how you treat people. Captail Punishment, interesting I will be tame here. Yes i do believe in it, if you do horrendous crimes and there is strong evidence proving your acts then I am a strong believer. Too many people are commiting crimes as the punishment is far to easy. If it was stronger maybe there wouldnt be so much crime around the place and finally cival rights are good to a point, I also believe that sometimes it is taken too far and out of context.

Cheers Mieca
