Period missing for nearly a year?

Okay,im asking this question for my friend cause I’m concerned about her health.

My friend, well call her ‘’layla’’ has not had her period in almost a year. Layla is kinda overweight but she has a lot of what I would call stress in her life she is also eighteen like me.she lives with her grandparents and her grandmother is always on her case 24/7 about something stupid.layla does not eat a lot but she is still overweight.she gets made fun of at the private school she attends and the teachers pick on her cause she is a slow learner and she is biger than the other girls.layla gets really depressed and she has severe nosebleeds lasting an hour or more sometimes twice or three times a week.layla just told me the other day that she has not had her period in almost a year and she’s afraid to tell anyone because she’s really self-consicence and embarased.

I have had this happen to me once when I was in school and working [[same symptoms as layla]] and were built aboutthe same but mine came back in three months.

I am very worried about layla and I want to help her cause she is worried,so can yall help me?

Hello! Sounds like your friend Layla has some issues and the only way she can get better is to go see her doctor. From what you have described, it sounds like she could have a thyroid problem. The thyroid is a gland which is located in the front of your neck. When our thyroid doesn’t work right, it can affect your weight, if you don’t have enough thyroxine you can become overweight, too much thyroxine and you can be very thin. Thyroxine regulates your body weight. It also affects your periods, can affect your mental well-being and depression. Your friend Layla should run not walk to the doctor. The other problem with her nosebleeds should also be seen by her GP. It sounds like she may have nose polyps which would explain why her nosebleeds last so long. If your friend does go to the doctor, this could change things for her well-being and her self-esteem could improve. She would feel better about herself. You say that she doesn’t eat much, but what we eat affects our well-being too. If she only eats candy bars, or potato chips instead of fruit and vegetables this affects our metabolism. If you’re not feeding your body the right foods then you will gain weight because your body is trying to preserve itself and your metabolism will slow down. It’s best to eat 5 small meals a day which are healthy, rather than to eat only one meal that has no nutritional value. Hope this helps you and your friend! Take care.
