Why is it that people have a negative image of Koreans?

i have heard frm people, tho it is generalising, That koreans are lairs and rapists and the land of plasitc surgery, they the smell of kimchi (which i find not to be ture as i am married to a korean and we both eat kimchi like crazy) that they have stolen history frm china and japan and or have faulsifed thier histroy and copied many japanese product.

I think you need to listen to different people. I have never in my life heard that stereotype.

Sometimes it is limited experience. I’ll admit that I started to form a negative view of Koreans after working for a very dishonest Korean boss who ran a lot of scams and ended up leaving the country owing me 3 paychecks (and owing lots of other people a lot more than me). Later I worked with a Korean gentleman who was the opposite: unfailingly honest, ridiculously hard working, and generous to a fault. There are good and bad people of every ethnic group but when you have had bad experiences with a few it is easy to generalize and stereotype the whole group.

People seem to have a negative image on every race, it’s like every race has it’s stereotypes! Due to what we see in TV shows and how we apply them with different races gives us mixed massages. as filletofspam had shared his story, every race has their set of good and bad people, it’s their character that defines them, not their nationality!

in my country the only negative image of koreans was that they eat dogs. Now, im not sure if thats true or not. people would say that dogs bark at Koreans more and dogs know that they ate them… that was the saying back then when i was a kid.

Because of ignorance, i lived in South Korea for one year. There culture and women were beautiful. God has made beauty in everything He has made and Asians are beautiful. Speaking only for myself.

why is that a negative thing? in peru they eat guinea pig, we eat cows chickens pigs which are and can be forms of pets. I have eatten do in korea and korea isnt the only place that eats dog, vietman eats more dog than korea :) also its a small practice compared to bakc in the day, think about it, 9 million or so dogs are killed each year for eatting in s korea i think in my opion that is not alot when u consider their is a population of 50+ million :)

I grew up around Koreans because of Tae-kwon-do the only negative thing I can say is the majority of Koreans I know are brutally honest. I’ve been told word for word “Oh you used to be so fat and ugly now your so pretty and skinny” Haha I was like umm…thanks? I have a soft spot in my heart for Koreans though :)

I think Koreans rather save face and try not to make u mad or upset but not being honest and then usually they will go gossip behinde ur back.

It has happened ALOT with me over the yrs and its really bothersome, and that is a shitty part of thier culture. I got pissed of at my husbands uncle when i met him 1st time 5 yrs ago, he said to my now husband (which i was dating at the time) and he said “she is cute but fat” though m husband say he ment Chubby, lol ye right. I told my husband, that is uncle is fat not cute and old so I am 2 up on him i may be fat in his eyes but at least im fat cute and young xD

No they were definitely born and raised in Korean haha, the thing with the ones who have been brutally honest with me is I grew up around them, so there was no cruel intentions behind the statements. The martial arts school I went to was VERY traditional, no english was spoken there whatsoever so I was pretty much the only white girl there haha everyone else was Korean and fully in their element.
