Answer #5

We’re having a collection where we pack gift packets for homeless people.

You pack a box, wrap it up beautifully and put it on the collection table in the public school or in the city hall and attach a short list of contents (coffee, canned food, gloves size L, scarf, cap). And then the social workers will figure out who of their clients could use that and remove your note and add a name tag.

Answer #6

We put all our old clothes and belongings we don’t want anymore in one of the Vinnies bins which are collected before Christmas and given to those in need. We also donate a couple of gifts to a foundation that gives disadvantaged kids presents on Christmas.

Answer #11

I purchased a few toys and donated it earlier to a local church that was collecting new toys and clothing for the less fortunate in town, as did many others. Two weeks ago the church was broken into and all the items collected, stolen. I’m financially struggling and can’t afford to go back out again to replace what I donated. But at the store where I work I see many who also donated, rebuying again and even more then they originally donated. Kinda gives you a warm fuzzy hearing/seeing these families. And especially one family who’s kids told them to not buy them anything but give them the cash so they can pick out clothes and toys to give to the churches needy. Rings home the true meaning of Christmas and breathes new life that kindness isn’t a thing of the past.

Answer #12

Yep, going to the halfway house to help out on xmas eve :) done it last few years actually :D

Answer #13

I know a Chicago Cop and his officer buddies that every year put together blankets, gloves, hats, and hand out hot coffee and food bags to the homeless that sleep under viaducts, becuase they refuse to go to the shelters. The same officers who have no recourse but to arrest insistant vagrants do a 180 about tha time of year.

Answer #14

I will prolly help out with the toy drive, or help gather old clothes I don’t wear to give to the needy.
