to go along with amberbock: Use an antimicrobial soap like satin soap.. much better for it that antibacterial.. Also use a sea salt rinse

First fill a fresh disposable cup with 1 cup (8 oz. ) of distilled water and a 1/4 teaspoon of sea salt, stirring until it is dissolved. Heat until it is as warm as you can stand it. NOT HOT OR BOILING When ready you can place the cup over the piercing to form a vacuum tight seal or just dip the piercing into the cup.

If either of these techniques are not possible pre-soak a fresh paper towel (Vivas work best because they are thick and soft) in the sea salt solution and gently press onto your piercing. The first soak should last for at least ten minutes. Any soaks there after should last about five to ten minutes. Each soaking session should last about twenty minutes.

Following the soak you should pat your piercing and jewelry dry with a fresh paper towel.

What kind of piercing? How old are you? What do you use to clean it? and No it shouldn’t effect that occupation. If it is a naval, it heals in 6-8 months. If it is ear 4-12 weeks. If it is a mouth piercing 2-4 months. And you ALWAYS need to clean it. Piercings hold bacteria, keeping it clean is always a good idea, healed or not.
