Parakeet egg laying

I have a male and female keet in the same cage. She started laying eggs on April 26, 2009 by last week she had laid 5 eggs. Then I looked this morning and she had laid two more for a total of seven. She incubates them like a good little mommy. Will she ever stop laying eggs? Should I throw the eggs out? I don’t want to upset her and/or cause her to lay more as I know it is very hard on her. She’s a real sweetie. I’ll contact an avian vet at the vet school. Any advice to keep here happy and healthy is appreciated. Thanks.

let your keet keep her eggs and lay on them like any good mommy. I suggest waiting a couple of weeks, then VERY CAREFULLY pick up each egg and hold it to a strong light. if you can see something growing, let her keep it. if not…get rid of it, but be sure its not fertile. The mommy keet will keep laying until mating season is over and her new babies hatch.

by then she’ll be busy enough and will stop laying. good luck and congratso and the future little keets.

if you go to a pet store you should get a special container to put the eggs in to get the lighting and proper heating
