Oprah's puppy mill horrors

Is anyone planning on watching Oprah’s special on puppy mills today? It’s just starting here on the East Coast of the US and I want to cry already.

Does anyone have dogs? Did you get them from pet stores? Can you imagine what they could have gone through? It’s horrible.

hi. I just read this question regarding the oprah show. thank goodness she finally did something on puppymills. I volunteer for peta as an undercover investigator and work for my local shelter as an abuse investigator in my off hours.I live in tennessee and have been working with an investigator regarding puppymills from oklahoma and arkansas that come to tn to sell their puppies. most people don’t understand or realize that puppymills are not always huge, they can be the backyard breeder with only a few dogs. every pet store in the memphis area sells puppymill puppies. I was extremely alarmed at the high incidence of amish puppymills. I googled amish puppymills and found there are many mennonite puppymills also. many treat their horses, cattle, etc. just as badly. we have started a boycott of amish products. pressure on the legitimate amish businesses will help to pressure them into action against the amish mill owners. two of the large amish companies are smithville products (dairy) and troyer cheeses. oprah’s show was very difficult to watch. I was crying right away also. the abuse I have seen, the dogs and cats that have to be euthanized because of abuse…is hard to live with. I also support mandatory spay/neuter laws, and am against pet shops. NO ONE should EVER purchase a pet from a pet store. visit petfinder.com or your local shelter. almost every breed, every age are listed there. like the humane society states, almost 90% of the dogs for sale in pet stores are from puppymills. DON’T BE FOOLED. a responsible breeder would never place puppies in a pet store. a responsible breeder wants to meet the potential owners. and it is ALWAYS better to adopt!

Answer #10

I saw it and it is so real and heartbreaking. I appauld her for running with the kill shelter and how dogs are put to death. It is something the public needs to be educated about. Seeing those poor beautiful animals being put in trash bags and than in a dumpster and than we are told they go to the dump. The bare truth shall open our eyes
