Normal or vegetative state?

If someone is awake from one month coma after brain tumor surgery but doesn’t understand anything already for a few days, is it normal or is it a vegetative state?or why is it so?

Answer #1

A vegetative state describes a condition in which a person retains the ability to breath, maintain a stable blood pressure, and involuntary muscles continue to work (lungs, heart) on their own but the person doesn’t have any cognitive function. Basically if someone in some way damages the cortex the person is left with no cognitive function (self awareness or conscious thought). The person because of this will only responds reflexively to outside stimulus and other then that remains unresponsive and unaware of. Is the person you are asking about responsive at all?
