My mom's aversion to hand-me-downs

Do you think the reason my mom does not like hand-me downs (clothing) is because she was born in the depression era and had to wear my aunts (all 4 of them) hand-me-downs.

Answer #1

many people who must wear hand-me-downs as children do not want any part of them as adults.

Answer #2

Yes, I think you’re right. I also think a lot of habits developed during that time. My mother, who is almost the same age as yours, is incredibly frugal, even though she is sitting on a large inheritance. I’ve seen her save half a cup of peas in the fridge, that didn’t get eaten for supper. Another person I know, same age, will not throw anything away. The house is so full of junk, you can’t even walk down the hall without moving boxes of magazines and folded up plastic shopping bags. In fact her bedroom is so full of clothes she sleeps on a couch in the living room.

I really believe these funny habits have come from living during that terrible time.
