My child failed school!

Out of the whole 7th grade classes, my son was the only one who was held back with a C average! I guess what upsets me is - there where MANY other children who had a F average and where moved onto 8th grade! I meet with the principal (over a 2 hour meeting) but her mind was already made up! I complained to the school board, emailed the state BOE, and got no where. Has anyone else ever delt with something like this? Where do I go from here???

Answer #1

Consult a lawyer to ascertain what options, if any…Take care !!

Answer #2

Here in Georgia we have: A, B, C, and Fs. Anything above a C is passing. But the school failed my child! I know of SEVERAL students that had a F average and still moved onto the 8th grade. Whats up with that!!?? And my child was the ONLY one that was held back!!!

Answer #3

lol. Your child has not failed school. C’s are a good grade it’s better than a D. Just be happy and thankful that your child has not got a D. I get C’s all the time.and if I get an A or B. I get a something that I have been wanting for a while.

All together he had 19 total tardies, early check outs, or absences. The reason they gave me was he dropped 150 points on his reading CRCT test from 6 to 7th grade! But what upsets me is in 7th grade the CRCT test can not hold a child back in the state of Georgia. Only 3rd, 5th, and 8th grades.

Answer #6

in most places, you get to CHOOSE if you want your child to stay back another year or not, even if they are failing…so yeah.

Answer #7

It was not 19 tardies - it was a combination of all ( tardies, absences, and early check outs. ) Most of this happened towards the end of school. He had 2 teachers that made him hate going. One who would hold a DUH sign in his face if he answered a question wrong, the other thold him in front of the class “ I will make sure of it that you don’t make it to the 8th grade!”

And NO he is not a child that distracts the class. Every confrence I went to the teachers all said good things about his attitude and behavior. He just could not grasp some things. And these 2 teachers he had issues with would not help him when he asked.

Now get this his doctor thinks he has TBI, that might be causeing learning dissablities.

Answer #8

Why did he have 19 tardies? That’s a lot. Sounds like he needs a tutor and should focus more. So if they hold him back it’s probably for the better.

Answer #9

Maybe he could take summer classes to get him up to speed and ready for 8th grade. Will they let him do that?

Answer #10

Maybe because of too many tardys, or absences.

Answer #11

No, the county we live in does not offer summer school to his grade. Sucks, huh?
