Mormon FAQ's being answered
If anybody has any questions about the mormon religion I would be happy to answer them. I have noticed that there are a lot of questions and I am mormon so, who better to ask than me. (If you are mormon you can help answer too)
Well South park is not a place to learn about religions first off. Mormon’s (a.k.a The church of Jesus Christ of latter day saints, or just LDS for short.) Are a Christian religion although many other churches do not believe they are. We believe in the Holy Bible just like other Christians but we also have another book which DOES NOT replace the Bible, it is just another testament of Jesus Christ. We Believe that God is the creator of everything and that his son, Jesus Christ sacrificed himself and took on our sins, so through him we are saved. We also believe in the Holy Ghost and we believe that God, Christ, and the Holy Ghost are three separate beings, we DO NOT believe in the trinity which says they are all one unified being. We also believe that we were alive before we came to this earth and that while we are on this Earth there is a living prophet that gives us counsel and revelation from God. We also believe in life after death. Those are the general beliefs of our church.
Joseph Smith never had either power or fortune, he died before he ever had a large following and this wasn’t just “his interpretation” of religion, he wrote an entire account with thousands and thousands of pages worth of information. But I really didn’t mean to get in a fight with this forum so I will accept that you believe what you believe and I the same.
What was Joseph Smith’s incentive for making the whole book up? How far would you go to get a good laugh and try to confuse so many people. This is where we need faith and if you ever read the Book of Mormon you will see that none of it (other than the frequent miracles) contradicts either history or the Bible. This would mean that Joseph Smith would have had to be an EXTREMELY knowledgeable person and he would have devoted his entire life and all that knowledge to a lie. To me that doesn’t make any sense. Joseph Smith, his brother, and countless others have died to protect the writings in that book and if you were Joseph Smith and you were making a huge lie would you give your life? Would you let your brother give his life? Joseph knew where the mob was going and he also had enough followers that he could have either escaped or stopped the mob but he knew he had to give his life. After he had been killed the mob ran in fear yelling “the mormons are coming” you don’t think we could have stopped them earlier? To say that the whole thing is a lie might just be one of the most outrageous statements I have ever heard. And I would like for you to tell me what his “vested incentive” was.
The golden plates are no longer on Earth, they were taken by the angel Elijah to heaven. There were a few others that saw the plates but no one else could read them or translate. This is also where stuff gets interesting, you have to be able to believe in miracles to understand this. The Lamanites traveled across the sea in boats that were described as being almost like floating submarines that were air tight or “tight like unto a dish” They brought with them the plates and then the plates were buried after the Prophet Mormon had gathered all the records into one place. They were found near modern day Vermont. By Joseph Smith.
The Reformed Latter Day Saints which is a totally separate religion has the original translations of Joseph Smith but these can no longer be used by us because it has been told to us that these records have been altered since they were obtained by the RLDS church. So in answerr to your question, yes the original translation exists but it has been changed.
Well, the “other book” or book of mormon was, like the bible. It was a journal from many ancient prophets such as alma, mosiah, mormon, and more. They kept these records on golden plates which were the records of the Jews. In 1830 Joseph Smith received revelation from the angel Moroni who showed him where the golden plates were buried. Joseph retrieved the plates and with the power of God was able to translate them even though he had no previous knowledge of the language they were written in. He was persecuted by many and eventually he was shot by a mob along with his brother, Hyrum Smith.
And to answer amoebas question. We believe that all life started as intelligences or spirits if you will. These spirits were organized by God and they became man and beast and “all manner of life”. Then there was a great counsel in heaven where Jesus Christ and Satan Showed their plans. Jesus wanted to give us free agency or the ability to choose what we want to do. This is a test, that is why we are on Earth now, we are being tested to see if we are worthy. Satan wanted to control us and make us be worthy much like robots. Also, Jesus wanted to give all the glory to God and Satan was greedy and wanted the glory. So to make a long story short, one third of the spirits in heaven followed Satan to hell and the other two thirds came to earth to be tested. So we were just spirit beings with no physical bodies and we are here to receive bodies and be proven worthy.
Right. So there’s absolutely no evidence that these things ever existed, except for accounts made by a very small group of people who had a vested incentive to lie?
Did anyone other than Joseph Smith ever see these “golden plates”, or translate them? Are there records of the originals so we can verify their contents?
“Alive before we came to this earth” sorry but I know little about the Mormon religion. Were you from outer space or pre-created creatures placed on earth by god? Thanks for being open to questions.
Oh, sorry about that, no we are not vegan and we do not need an organic diet. I personally am trying to become a vegetarian (not strict but just general) but that is just a personal thing and has nothing to do with religion. We can eat normal foods but some basic things we try to stay away from are drugs, alcohol, caffeine, and we eat meat sparingly. We also stay away from any truly addicting substances such as nicotine. But along the same lines we also do not believe in having tattoos or piercings in men. Also women should have only one set of ear piercings and no other piercings.
What could Joseph Smith’s “vested incentive” be? Money, power, fame, fortune…
Think of Jim Jones… He encouraged his family, friends, followers to kill themselves… Parents killed their children. Husbands and wives died holding hands… Jones killed himself… All this was done in the name of “his” interpretation of “his” religion…
I am not saying that Joseph Smith didn’t speak to the angel Moroni, or get the golden plates or whatever. But don’t be so naive to think that man would not make up a huge lie to gain power and fortune… and do whatever was needed to keep that power and fortune.
I would also like to add that this is one of the reasons for our “strict rules”. We believe the body is a sacred thing created by God and we have no right to harm or destroy it. We are supposed to remain physically fit and stay away from harmful substances because until we are proven worthy, these bodies belong to God. We often refer to them as “temples”
Actually, I asked a question earlier that you never answered. You spoke about your religions respect for the human body and the need to stay away from harmful substances… I asked if mormons ate a vegan, organic diet.
thanks for the answer. and you might want to wiki joseph smith…
So, are you vegans who eat only certified organic?
where did the other book come from? and what’s with the golden tablets (that is your religion right?
What is it. The only time I heard of them was in an episode from South Park
