Why do I play guitar with my left hand?

well im right handed and yet I play a left handed guitar, does this happen often? does anyone thin this is weird?

Some people are what is known as ambidextrous which is a hundred dollar word meaning they can use both hands equally well. God I wish that I were, but I am a lefty, and taught myself to play the guitar, as no one would teach a lefty then…and remember there were only a few lefty guitar players out there: Jimi Hendrix, and Paul McCartney! Now, of course there are hundreds, and left-handed guitars are readily available! It is interesting to note, that because Jimi played a right handed stratocaster, strung backwards, and upside down, the bridge pick-up that is (for a “Righty” ) angles for more crisp bite on the treble strings - now became accented towards the bass strings, as Jimi’s was reversed. Now…to get the sound that Jimi got…you can but a LEFT handed Strat, strung Right handed to get the same intonation for right handed people…so we have come full circle!

I don’t think it’s really that weird. I have a few friends that are right-handed and play guitar left. I am right handed and I do many things left handed, things like hockey and baseball. As for ‘missariaaa’s comment. All of my lefted handed friends play guitar lefted handed… So as for you ‘redhotchic’ I wouldn’t really worry about it, I’m pretty sure it’s quite normal.

not really. I’m right handed, I write with both of my hands, and occasionally I will play my Ibanez upside down for no reason. lol.

Hendrix was a beast.

Also, I’ve heard if your left handed its good to learn right handed. So does that mean if your right handed its good to learn left handed? I have no idea haha.

well, Im left-handed and I play guitar right handed, maybe if I learnt on a left-handed one Id play a lot better. Ive always played cricket and softball right-handed but everything else left-handed or left-footed.

But Jimi Hendrix didn’t play a left handed guitar. He played a right-handed Fender Stratocaster strung backwards. If you look at pictures of Hendrix you will notice he played it upside down.

Well, for the ones I mentioned I guess I should say PLAYED, since neither of them are alive anymore. But yes there are tons of famous lefties out there today too

Lots of famous guitarists play left-handed. Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix… not out of the norm at all. That’s why they make left-handed guitars..
