Why does my iPod die after it starts up?

I accidentally left my iPod charging for a 4 days, and now it wont work. If I plug it in, it doesn’t show up on itunes, and if i try turnin it on, it shows the little apple on the screen and then dies. Is it completely broken? and do i need 2 go get it fixed?
