How to get rubber bit rings on the bit?

Well question says it all

Our mare needs rubber bit rings, and we don’t know how to get them on the bit. We end up cutting a slit in the rubber rings, but every time I go for a ride, one falls off and we end up buying a new pair.

We have a 3 inch ring snaffle bit. Any ideas on how to get the rubber rings over a 3 inch metal ring?

Answer #1

Yah, some of our friends told us to stretch them, but the rings on the snaffle bit are to big so we just ended up cutting them but we may look for a smaller ringed bit

Answer #2

I did it exactly the same way you did…but that’s only because I’m not strong enough to stretch them over the bit rings (which is how they are normally done). Now you’ve mentioned it, tho…I wonder if there isn’t stretching tool made just for this.

They protect the corners of the horses mouth, anyway…by slitting them.
