How much applesauce do I use for substitution of shortening?

I want to substitute applesauce for shortening in banana bread. if it calls for 1/2 cup shortening, how much applesauce should I use?

If you cut out the fat completely, you’ll end up with a dense, coarse bread. The ideal substitution is 3/4 the amount of fat, so 3/4 of 1/2 is .375 grams…the amount is so insignificant that it’s almost not worth it.

If you choose to forgo the shortening altogether, I recommend you double the amount (so in this case, 1 cup of applesauce).
