How do I feed a rat to a python?

My boyfriend made me promise to take care of his python while he’s gone, but I’m afraid to feed him lol.

Someone tells me to drop the rat in the tank, and someone else says no, to put the snake in the box with the rat .. so what am I supposed to do? lol

Thanks :)

Answer #1

Snakes should not be feed in their tanks. This can make them aggressive when taking them out of the tank when its not feeding time. They will start to associate you messing with them with time to eat. They should be removed from the cage and places in a box or tote that will continually be used as a feeding place.

I have four snakes and all of them are fed in tubs.

Lol I know you’re not supposed to kill it first. I did it, I just put it in the tank and the snake didn’t hesitate she just grabbed him and choked the life from his poor little body :( thanks guys!

wow, 10 feet?! This one’s about 5 feet. haha she’s as tall as me. =D

Answer #3

dont take the snake out and put it in a box or a bathtub, if your scared to feed it no doubt youll be scared to pick ot up, try to catch it, or know what to do if it bites you or anything. just place the rat in the tank I have a 10 foot carpet python by the way

Answer #4

Put the live rat in with the snake. The python is a hunter. It will track and capture, then eat the rat. If it isn’t hungry it will ignor the rat.

Answer #5

My friend puts the rat in the bath-tub and then puts the snake in after it. It works flawlessly because the contrast between the cold tub and the warm rat make it easier for the snake to track its meal.

Answer #6

first kill the rat. Then either pick it up or get something else to do that. Then dump it in.
