how do I connect speakers with windows xp

how do you connect speakers to a pc.I have a computer not a lapto with windows xp.the speakrs are turned on and I no there working but I cant get any audio out of them.help?

hello pal, basically I had this problem, you need to go to control panel, make sure the sound card and the hardware (speakers) are installed and then choose the sound option or something along those lines, and then choose the set up you have 5.1 or 7.1 etc and then restart your PC and it should work, if not then get back to me.
