Horror versus terror?

What’s the difference between horror and terror?

I’ve come to understand that horror is more an emotional reaction to witnessing something horrific where as terror is more psychological and an emotion induced by uncertainty and the unknown. I am researching this and this is what I seem to find over and over again.

Could someone elaborate on the differences between horror and terror? Or perhaps give your own personal input on the difference between the two?

This may not be very good but off the cuff, it’s my conjecture that horror is the result something that is ongoing such as a horrifieing situation that goes on and on, whereas terror comes from something that happens very quickly without notice. In other words, the emotions are very similar yet different.

I have found the same thing you did. O think terror would be hard to over come due to the psychological impact that it has due to it being towards oneself as opposed to horror which may not directly impact someone. Sorry that’s all I got

eg: “passengers felt shear terror as the plane made an emergency landing” or “observing the damage and injuries at the earthquake site was horrifying”
