Do we inherit the sound/pitch of our voice from our parents?

I’ve always wonderd this…

As we inherit characteristics from our parents (such as hair colour, eye colour, skin colour etc), do we inherit the sound/pitch of our voice from our parents?

Answer #1

I’m sure we do - anything can be inherited from your family’s gene’s. It doesn’t have to be your parents either - you can inherit things from your grandparents and even father back through your genes. Eye color, hair color, sexuality, skin color, habits, addictions, mental disorders, health problems, etc.

Answer #2

It’s all genetic, like mandyloo said. According to my mother, I sound EXACTLY like my uncle from her side of the family. Other relatives agree. Our laughs, our yells, our giggles and general conversation are indistinguishable.

Answer #3

I think what we inherit is the physical characteristics that cause the sound/pitch of our voice. That, along with picking up family voice traits from exposure, helps to establish the sound characteristics of our voice.
