Has anyone had to look after themselves as children?

Yeah. My dad was in jail and addicted to drugs and alcohol all my life, my mom is verbally abusive, and my sister is in prison for child endangering of her kids. Sometimes we wouldn’t have enough to eat for weeks, so I had to live with my grandparents for a while. I got in trouble a lot at school and didn’t have any friends. My family treated me like the black sheep. I’m 13 and I still can’t live like this. I’ve almost died of anorexia, cut myself, thought of suicide and running away all the time. No one on this planet deserves to live what I had to go through.

Hi, funadvice Sweetheart … Let me tell you a story that not many people heard about in the seventies…child neglect and child abuse were hidden behind closed doors back then. noone in the family,much less the community ever talked about it…

When I was 6, my mother died of breast cancer and my brother and I were left as the “parents” to our emotionally unavailable and detached broken-hearted father.. We were left alone more evenings than I care to remember, I did grocery shopping laundry, housekeeping, preparing meals before I was 10 years old …

My best advice to you if this what’s happening now is to GET INTO COUNSELING, and get into it fast. You’ll run a swift pace through life trying to survive because no on was ever there for you when you were a child … it won’t hit you until you’re an adult and then it’s harder to cope … I know, I’m living it now.

me too my mum put me into care and I had to look after my self when I was in care as they wouldnt look after me just abuse me

YES! if you have, I know how you feel. my mom left me when I was two weeks old, and my dad has been in jail since before I was born. & now she wants to prance into my life like everything’s okay. I made it through even if that took away my childhood. but yeah, I didnt choose my life. I got stuck with it

my mum used to leave me in the house buy my self when I was 3 when she used to go down the road and stuff and let the guyy abuse me all my life I been in care and she hasnt done nothing about it when I was 13 I got raped and she didnt say anything to comfort me and I been trying to kill my self but she doesnt do anything to stop me and I hate food becauuse of her foods the only thing I can control
