Why do we hallucinate when we are ill?

This question just sprung to mind. This happened to me like 4 years ago and I was really ill and I halluncinated loads of fridges filled around me in my living room and it make me really scared. I have no idea why I imagined that, I was just wondering why it hapens or what causes it. Is it sort of like a dream but when you are awake?

did you drink a load of cough syrup lol that’s my best guess… could have been some chemical imbalance…

I might of lol, im not sure it was like 4 years ago and I was 10 ten then so im not sure. I was just wondering why it occurs and stuff. Thanks for your reply! : )

Did you have a high fever? High fevers can cause hallousinations.

I’d say you had a chemical inbalance. Lets just say i have had many times in my life when i was on dr^gs, once LSD. When you hallusinate it is caused by to many chemicals going through your brain at a time. I’d say you had a trippy sick excpirence, but i have never heard of fridges
