Should the margins on my paper be 1.25 inches or 1.25 centimetres?

I’m workin on my paper and just realized it asks for margins of 1.25 is that in inch or cm (failure to do so will result in point deduction)? What do u guys think?

Answer #1

. I am certain that if it says 1.25 it will be 1.25 inches. . My reasoning: . (a) it is a default left & right margin size on MS Word wordprocessor etc; . (b) you are studying in the USA, and they conventionally quote such …..dimensions in inches rather than centimetres; . (c) 1.25 cm margins would be much smaller than commonly found on …..academic papers ( whereas 1 inch and 1.25 inch are both common ). . (d) 1.25 cm margins would not even give enough margin width to allow …..hole-punching for use in ring-binders, and would be perilously close to the minimum workable margin for common plastic or wire binding systems; . (e) 1.25 inch margins allow adequate room for guillotining during …..professional leather / cloth & board binding into book form as often …..required for final presentation of theses and similar scholarly works. .

Answer #2

yeah, thanks i thought so too. just needed assurance my ms word doesn’t have inches so i converted 1.25 to cm and set the margins to 3.18 cm.

Answer #3

Yeah - I’m sure that will be fine. I think you will find that on opening a new blank file in your wordprocessor, when you go to “page set-up” the left and right margins default to 3.17 cm ….. 3.17 and 3.18 cm are both approximately 1.25 inches accurate to ± 0.05mm.

Answer #4

1.25 inches is the standard.
