Guitar tab?

On a guitar tab what does an “x” mean?

The X usually means you should deaden the string (touch it but don’t press it down to the fret) so it won’t ring when your pick hits it. Example C fingering: E 0 B 1 G 0 D 2 A 3 E x (deaden the low E with your thumb)

x - means DEAD STRING you shouldn’t pick or strum the strings that have x.
