How to get financial aid?

So I’m going to apply for financial aid. I’m 18 I still live at home. Will I get more financial aid if I claim to live by myself? if I claim to live by myself do I still need to put down my moms tax information?

Hi,

It’s not whether you claim to live alone or by yourself…it’s whether your Mom claimed you as a dependent in her taxes. If she did, you are legally attached to her financially.

If she didn’t claim you, you could file individually for your taxes and then the financial aid would use this tax information for the financial aid.
