Is it a fact that people who are left handed think differantly than people who are right handed?

Answer #1

I do not think that it is reasonable to assume that that is significantly the case.

All people think differently to one another to a very great extent and there are several clearly established differences between male and female though processes, caused by the different hormonal balances.

I would say that there are many similarities between the thought processes of both left and right handed males (who have comparatively similar strengths and weaknesses) whereas both left and right handed females share many feminine type thought processes that are quite different from the male mental faculties.

The biggest difference that I have noticed between left and right handed people is statistical evidence that left handers may on average have better spatial awareness than their right handed counterparts.

This shows up particularly well in the disproportionately large number of top class left-handed tennis players.

Spatial awareness is determined in the right hemisphere of the brain, and if the right hemisphere is more highly developed it is not only likely to improve spatial awareness, but also likely to increase the likelihood of the person being left-handed since the right hemisphere controls the motor functions of the left hand side of the body.

Language functions are largely located in the left hemisphere and this would suggest the possibility that what the right handed person marginally lacks in spatial awareness is balanced by a marginal better command of language.

However, I do think these differences are trivial at all but the highest levels of disparate handedness.

Answer #2

Ok I was wondering cuz all my friends think I think differantly cuz I’m left handed, they say I think things through more thoughly than they do, but anyways thx for the explanation, I appreciate it bn so detailed

Answer #3

You are welcome. I suspect the differences in your case are less to do with you being left-handed, and more to do with you being a more logical person generally speaking.

Of course I don’t know about your own personality, but sometimes the more “outgoing” extrovert personalities are more impulsive and react intuitively to situations without necessarily thinking them through in detail, whereas the less outgoing introvert personality is often more cautious - while thinking things through in a logical and orderly fashion.

I do not know of any imbalance of introvert vs extrovert personality when comparing left and right handed people.

Answer #4

I’m left handed but when I speak I miss some words like “I have seen the ball not” instead of “I have not seen the ball.” It’s weird. =/

Answer #5

That is a very interesting observation.

It would be thought provoking to hear other examples of “language quirks” among both left and right-handed people. Incidentally, it is well known that women typically have better language skills than men, so you should not consider yourself to be necessarily disadvantaged by your left-handedness.

Answer #6

no, i am have a right handed friend, and a left handed friend who almost share a brain

Answer #7

I have heard it said that women have only one brain between the lot of them.

Answer #8

that’s just silly, every single person and animal on the planet has a seperate brain. I just meant that my friends think the same way so people who are left handed don’t generaly think differently from people who are right handed

Answer #9

Yes of course it is silly, but no more silly than two people “almost sharing a brain” - it was meant to be silly, but it is something that I really have heard said, …..

In fact it was used in a very funny comedy script for a TV programme called “Fawlty Towers”.
