Can your eye color change by your mood?

I have chocolate brown eyes and my friends say when I get mad or annoyed they turn dark and sometimes black but when I’m relaxed there a chocolate brow… so is it possible?

Answer #1

Nope. But i think when your eyes water/your crying/the white of your eye is red, it makes the color seem brighter.

Answer #2

Yes, I believe so.

I’ve heard of people’s eye color changing when they get mad (some people’s eyes will turn a reddish color), or at other times.

I’m not sure exactly why it happens though.

Answer #3

I think it may be possible. My eyes might do that. They seem to get more green in them at certain times over others.

Answer #4

My son’s blue eyes turn a smokey grey when he’s in a somber mood.

Answer #5

This is an interesting subject. It’s something that scientifically isn’t possible, yet I too have seen it happen in front of me. I have a friend with mild greeny blue eyes that go absolutely bright bright lizard green when she’s mad. I have another friend who’s bright blue eyes go concrete grey when she is sick (her mum can tell when she’s faking it haha!). I have also noticed a change in my own eyes as I get older, from bluey green to a very defined green. I don’t know for sure if your eyes can change with moods, but maybe they can go a few shades darker? I wouldn’t bet on brown eyes going blue, but brown to darker/blacky… maybe.

Answer #6

Some people’s eyes do change colour depending on their mood. So yes.

Answer #7

No they can not change colors. Eye color is genetic and is determined before birth. However, they may appear to change color due to different light reflections, pupil size, and maybe even blood flow.

Answer #8

btw, when you’re angry your body is likely going through a “fight or flight” response which increases blood flow and causes your pupils to dilate. That could very well be causing the appearance of your eyes changing colors.

Answer #9

yes, i have that happen to me allm of the time- what is happening is i have a green area around the brown in my eyes- when my pupils are small i have brown eyes, when my pupils get bigger it constricts the brown so that the green outer area is showing. so my eys do change from brown to green depending on the amount of light or even my mood. that is the explanation. it was rather funny to hear one of my sisters say- “i thought you had brown eyes - your eyes are green” so i started looking closer at what was happening and figured it out.

Answer #10

Absolutely not. It may appear that eyes are “changing color” but it’s just the way light hits and reflects against the iris. It’s an optical illusion. The eyes may look like they have changed colors, but they haven’t at all.

Answer #11

Mine seem to change a lot depending on how I feel…they are greener when I’m sad and go a dark brown when I’m happy…maybe something to do with genes???
