What should I do about an extra brown period on birth control patch?

I put on my new patch a day late and I started my second period this month. It is brown and I feel a lot more cramps than normal. I’ve done this before and I bleed for a month… Really would like to avoid that. Should I take the patch off now and act like its my normal period and start a new cycle new week? Or should I keep the patch on and hope for the best? Has anyone else had this issue and how did you correct it?

Answer #1

Brown period just means the blood is old I’m pretty sure. I’d just keep the patch on, but you could always ask your gyno.

Answer #2

yeah like kahili said its probably just old blood ,nothing to worry about but if if it still bugs you ,you should take a trip to see your doctor :-)

Answer #3

If you are bleeding on birth control it usually means that the birth control you are using is not strong enough i.e. does not give enough hormones so you will have what is called breakthrough bleeding. Go back to your health care provider and discuss this with them. Perhaps they can give you a patch with a different combination of the hormones estrogen and progesterone or a different type of birth control.
