Why do dogs go in circles before they do their business?

Answer #1

Mark the territory? Idk, make sure the ground is appropriate?

Answer #2

ie: checking for cacti, snakes, or other harmful things on the ground, to which they are about to face their doggy asses.

Answer #3

It gives them time to make up their mind. ;P “Is this the spot, is this the spot!?” must be what’s going through their doggie minds. lol They do that a lot before they lay down too. ;P Some times they will run around like crazy in a circle and then stop and look at me and look around for another spot. ;P Also they might run around in a few circles then stop and dig before they lay down. ;P :D

Answer #4

oh i thought it was superstition.

Answer #5

I reckon they are sussing out an exit point if the situation arises,if they can turn a circle then numerous options are available….It is a natural pre-chilling avent to work out what you can do if you must run. I have never even owned a dog so what do i know?
