Does sitting properly in a chair help with your posture?

Does sitting properly in a chair help with your posture and help reduce backpain? I’ve noticed after some days, my back really hurts, and I think my posture could use work, but I don’t think it’s that bad. Would conciously improving it help with the pain do you think?

There was a study done very recently, I believe it was only completed within the past 2 months. The results stated that people with good posture are more prone to back pain and other more serious problems. It is much healthier, to be relaxed when sitting, but not to be hunched over all day, because that puts far too much strain on the muscles. You just have to find which position reduces your pain, or look into alternative treatment options…

Dear thedude, After hearing of the recent study done I quickly picked the brain of my physiotherapist. Well you can imagine the conversation around this. He stated that a study such as this was done in the 80s while he was in university. He stated that they proved it to be wrong. He had no insight as to why the study was released again but is very adamant that sitting up right with head up shoulders down is the only way. He spouted off some jargon that I didnt’ understand LOL but the bottom line was good posture is the way to go. I know what it is like sitting in a chair in front of a computer all day…they have lumbar pillows, and lifts for the feet for sitting and standing. I use a phone book under my feet when sitting for a long time. Sue…good luck
