Does God intervene?

I recently acquired Richard Dawkins’ The God Delusion. Last night, while reading the book, there was a power-failure and as a consequence I had to lit some candles in order to keep reading. When pouring a glass of wine for myself, the book hit the candle flames and went on fire. As a reaction I threw the burning book in the fireplace and it went up in smoke. WHY?

Answer #1

Why would God allow a book to be a best seller? God allows lots of horrible things to happen, least of which a best selling book. The reason he allows things is a different issue tho. God could and may step in to stop YOU from reading it. Maybe because you are the type of person to even think about that possibility, is also why God would stop you from reading it, because he knows it may help you.

Strangely enough, not that I am unaware of all the ignorant scoffs some people will make while reading this, I went to see Expelled: No Intelligence Allowed. Richard Dawkins is in that movie, and before I even knew who he was, before he even opened his mouth, the second I saw him, I thought woa that guy is really evil! I could just tell by his eyes as soon as I saw him. Turns out he wrote The God Delusion. Weird huh?

You should take it as a blessing. I don’t think it is wrong for people to read that book and, it is important to know about other points of view so you aren’t blindly believeing something. However, people are influenced by evil things and maybe at his point in your life it is better you don’t read it.

I don’t know if it was an intervention by God or a coincidence but you should ask God. Eventually the answer will be clear.

Answer #2

lol, I see strange signs all the time.. and maybe God interveined with you for a special reason, the book may be a best seller, but I can bet similar things have happened to other people.. Not to mention a lot of crappy books are titled best sellers… plus the devil is going to try to back anything that is against God, which may be another reason the book is doing well. But God is stepping in apparently, and selecting certian people that he knows he can reach, obviosly if this happened to everyone a lot of people would think nothing of it, the fact that you perceived this as a mirical or intervention is probably the reason it happened to you, because he/she knew you would understand. I say “He/She” to make sure I don’t offend anyone, I really don’t beleive God is either a he or she, but I don’t know what the correct terminolgy would be. The fact that the book burned on FIRE is a just another sign hinting to the devils involvment if you ask me. I’ll be honest with you, I’m not one for organized religion, but I do beleive in God or one creator.. Maybe you should start doing a little more research.. Start by googling this “The Number 33” and it’ll take you down a path of information that will stem off to a million different religions and answers for you to explore… Hope this helps :)

who knows, my opinion could have been wrong,, but no reason 2 be a rude a$$ #*%$# lmao

Answer #4

Answer #5

Btw anny, if your such hot Sh*t why don’t you have any pictures up? does it really make you feel good to go around talkin smack about other people on an internet forum? If it does, I’m glad I helped you feel better about yourself :)

Answer #6

It’s rather narcissistic to think that of all the people who have read the book, and of all the people who have had the same reaction to the book you might have had, god decided to ‘save’ you alone from reading it.

If the same situation had happened when you were reading a bible, what would your conclusion have been?

Answer #7

lol my bad then, I tend to get carried away on my advice, but it’s all with the best intentions sooo …

Answer #8

No suggestions Bluedrops (on second thought: try wine, but beer is great too don’t you think?). I like bimjob’s first answer the best cminor; I did ask and that is the advice that I take. It makes the most sense… Mikeh seems most concerned about my welfare. I like that too.

Answer #9

lol how bout on me, Good looking dread locked rasta man, sittin at work sober? Thats true too lmao, except I’m already talkin 2 someone so ladys don’t get no ideas, but go check out my pics anyways

Answer #10

I am amazed about your inventive reactions folks. Any suggestions on me, good-looking blonde, drinking wine? Just curious?

Answer #11

Yeah it could have been for a million reasons like cminor said, I just can’t get over the fact that as I was trying to give her advice and prayed to open to the first most important thing, God told me not to waste my time because she wasn’t open to other peoples opinions. So cool! I did however, waste my time anyway. Oh well live and learn!

Answer #12

Lol, God wont allow you to read what someone else thinks? All I can say is God must be really insecure if instead of stopping wars and famine God’s busy stopping someone from reading a book.

Answer #13

Because paper is flammable, that’s why “…the burning book in the fireplace …went up in smoke.” :) Or if you are trying to blame the entire series of events on divine intervention, why would you think that god would allow that book to be a best seller, and just now - all the sudden - step in to stop YOU from reading it?

Answer #14

lmao… Listen, I work tech support, and I get time in between calls. We had a test just to get in the front door, out of 25 people, I was one of 3 who passed. My IQ ranges in the genuis category and it has since childhood, I’ve always been in the top 4% of my tests in school, statewide… I’m very smart and educated, and I don’t really read the bible just so you know. My boss pays me money because I do the job I was hired to do, and I do it well. In fact, in just my first week I had customers wishing only to speak with me, and no one else. the stupid thing is that I’m wasting my time defending myself to someone like you when I should be helpin others, lol… but I’ve got plenty of time for all of that too, I just don’t like people thinkin they know whats up when they don’t know jack :)

Answer #15

cminor, sittin’ at work and grabbin’ bibles and praying and messing around on websites like this??! And your boss pays you money for that?! And you are proclaiming that you are in the position to give ME, hard-working female, good advice? By the way, you would not be too happy with the ideas I have about you.

Answer #16

Maybe God Knew how the book would affect her? He is supposed to know all… Maybe it would have had a really bad affect on her, and maybe she’d be the type of person to go out on a killing spree or hurt herself, or maybe she has a special purpose that reading that book would possibly stop her from fufilling… ya never know… I definatly agree with bluedrops on this topic… And It’s not like God is just allowing wars and famine, The Devil is doing his best to make a mess for God to clean up. And maybe by helping certian people do certian things, it could have an affect on the war and famine… Kinda like the butterfly effect theory, that just from changing one persons actions you could change things all the way across the world… Open your eyes people… before it’s 2 late :)

Answer #17

This is so weird, when I was typing my post I hadn’t seen a few of the others yet. I went and grabbed my bible because I though maybe I could find a relevant quote. I prayed that I would quickly find one and the first thing I opened to said “You will throw up what little you’ve eaten and your compliments will be wasted, don’t waste your breath on fools, for they despise the wisest advice.” I decided to put no quote at all but then I read you response to cminor. Guess I should have listened to my intervention!

Answer #18

lol, last time I offer you any advice. It really sucks to see a mirical happen and just have it overlooked. And I was answering your question plus what some of the other people from the post said. once again, I’m not into just one religion, and I wasn’t trying to push anything on you, I was just giving you some data to explore on your own and make your own desicions… and the way you’re acting towards people that are trying to help you understand what happened… I think you should look in the mirror because you’re the one that needs to grow up…

Answer #19

…because Beelzebub with a bic would have been too straightforward?

Answer #25

Answer #26

Rapid, intelligent reactions… lads, you surprise me!

Answer #27

I’m more concerned with why you were reading a book made of flash paper.

Answer #28

hey blue drops, you’re pretty cool, we should talk more lol

Answer #29

Well, a friend has already pointed out God’s great sense of humour to me, and I think you may have another incidence of it here! He has no interest in getting a book like Dawkins’ banned or unpublished - it’s hardly a threat to Him, is it? But perhaps He actually has got something to say to you personally, annv, through such an entertaining story! And if He wants to communicate with you through humour, rather than through thunderbolts or anything you might have feared, then I’d say He’s worth getting to know.

Signed: a reasonable looking blonde with a fair amount of ‘Sundown Refresher’ (which seems to be based on peach schnaps) in her system.
