Please be aware that this argument generaly comes up because believers are the ones asking athiests how could we not believe, and aren’t we afraid of going to hell.

I do!You should have a firm belief in one thing and not be deterred by anything.

Like it says in the movie Dogma, it doesn’t matter what you believe in as long as you believe in something. Just listen to your heart and don’t let anyone make decisions for you.

I believe with everything that is within me, with my soul, my mind, my heart and my spirit. To me, God is my everything. He came into my life, in June of 1985, and I would not trade my relationship with him, for anything.

I would agree with tseirpeht and would suggest that you take him seriously. Because there is a God and there are indeed thousands of things that point to the creator. And if you ruin your thoughts about Him you have come to the right place. Don’t go by the wise sounding claims that they have not seen anything that points to the creator. They don’t see anything pointing to the creator because they don’t want to see.

Its your choice to choose eternal life or eternal distruction.

I could say the same about the “wise sounding claims” that “thousands of things” point to a creator. Nobody here has provided evidence of any of them, or a single testable hypothesis that would distinguish a created universe from a natural one.

In 200 years, my bet is no human will any longer believe in god. The reason I think that, is not because I think people will inherently become smarter or less superstitious, but because I think all humans will have artificially augmented intelligence and instincts - assuming we exist in biological form at all by then.

Those who are able to overcome the irrationality that made sense for our tribal ancestors, will thrive in the future, and everyone else will follow suit. I think this will happen in less than 100 years.

Two hundred years isn’t very long…I think they will still believe, as it has been the way of mankind since the beginning…to believe in something.

Thanks for being so condescending. The only reason many of us talk ‘so much’ about god (not just the Christian one, note) is because so much of society concerns belief in the supernatural, and many of us feel the need to address that issue.

It does not matter if there is no proof. It is what I believe. That is all there is to it. I won’t be mean like some here. I love the Lord and that is what I believe.

I know God exists. A bigger question would be what type of God is he. Is he a personal God, or an impersonal God. Is Jesus God, or is he not. If you seek the truth you will find it. But it means you have to be willing to question what you already believe, and to be critical of what others tell you, including the media, the atheists, the Christians, everyone. If you truly desire to find out what is true, I believe you will find it.

There are thousands of things that point to a creator. But when you have your mind already made up you will not accept them. If you are looking for encouragment to kick G-d out of your life then you have come to the right place. Just do me one favor, when you feel alone and want something in your life that can radically improve your circumstances. Ask G-d to open up your heart and see the truth. You will start to notice things, for me it started off small untill I couldn’t get enough. It was a personal path that only I could follow, and only I could understand. Eventually you will find yourself wanting more and more and every time you become thirsty he will fill your cup. Noone on this site can give you understanding, hope or love. All you have to know is where to get it from. G-d bless I hope that one day soon you will realize that all the hardships in your life turn into a blessing.

And yet nobody has been able to suggest a single experiment that would test this hypothesis.

I don’t believe in God, but that was through several years of doubt and questioning - I was raised a Christian. I did a lot of research before coming to the conclusion that I simply don’t believe He exists, and that works for me, but everyone has a right to believe what they want.

Aside from that, Christianity has survived a couple thousand years, I doubt that 200 years from now it will have faded away :)

Yea I ask that question every day,,,but who says that it’s not true and it’s make believe. If God has no beginning to end than who is he? If he has no beginning or end than maybe everything else is the same. And I’m not saying I do not believe in God but does he really exist? That’s my question. And if so, how do we know? etc..

Weather you belive in god or not I belive he has little to no infulance to what we do on earth I think that is the point to weed out to wicked so to speek , I belive this life is a test , thats why bad stuff happens to everyone , thats why evil exists its all because we have free will ,

but anyway I would not read too much into the bible as I was written long after christ “lived”

I believe in God. I think around this age a lot of teens get confused about what the believe. I, not proudly, admit sometimes do question wether is God is real or not. Then I find out something like Moses, in the book of Job, knew air had weight, but that wasn’t proven until 300 years ago! I found that pretty amazing. Or that the world wasn’t created necissarly in seven days, the latin word used in the bible to describe how long God took to create the world, is commonly mistranslated, (of course I forgot the word, will ask my sister who is minoring in latin tomorrow morning) but it simply means time passed. It could have take minutes, days, months, years, centuries…Things like this have helped keep my faith in a world full of science.

I believe in God because at the age of 9, I asked Him for forgiveness of my sin and to come into my heart and He did !! - He lives within - it’s called Salvation, as you can read why, the gift (Jesus), gain eternal Life in Heaven, all contained in the verse John 3 : 16,…so check it out if you’d like !…your option.

I beleive in him! and I think people in 200 years will too and if they dont that will be the time jesus comes to save us. I be;eive because just look outside! nature and look at yourself some big bang couldnt have made everything the way it is. it couldnt have made our bodies so perfect to where our noses are in the right place and our inside work so well and work so that we can live! you living is what god gives you everyday. you should thank him for letting you live another day each morning! (not talking to you in particular since you dont beleive. but he brings me good things and sometimes I dont relize it.

and there is this thing that happened to about three people aand one person recently who just died.. I forget his name you can look it up. it is called stigmata whre they got the wounds of crhrist (holes in there hands and feet) because they prayed to suffer like jesus. I think that is proof but yeah you say that he hasnt brought anything to you. it is your own fault what bad things happen to you. not saying this in a mean pushy way

Many of us don’t believe in (any) god, simply due to lack of evidence of one. You’re far from alone in that respect.

And that is one of the most loathsome things to ever come from abrahamaic theology. It leads to a blame-the-victim mentality that has contributed to, amongst other atrocities, thousands of years of suppression of women, blaming them instead of the perpetrators when they’re sexually abused, mistreatment of the ill, mentally ill, and deformed and blaming rather than helping those born into less fortunate positions than ourselves.
