Diabetes [ Serious Question ]

Okay this all sorta happened when ever I found out about Nick Jonas having diabetes. I was over at my friends house [who has diabetes] and shes like read this, so I did and it was the story of how Nick Jonas found out he had diabetes. I was reading along and the more and more I read it sorta had me because how he was feeling when he got it is like I feel now… the fatigue, loss of weight… I’ve looked the symptoms up on the internet and the most I could find is that I have 8 out of 11 of the most common symptoms. [below]

1)=Rapid or sudden weight loss [lost around from 15 to 19 pounds in a VERY short time] 2)=excessive hunger [some days I feel like this where I know I’ve eaten enough but still feel hungry and eat] 3)-Excessive thirst [ I rarely have this problem ] 4)=Tierdness and fatigue[ always. I used to be active and get up and outside and ride my horse or play softball or just go outside for the heck of it but now its like im a prisoner in my bedroom. I don’t want to go outside, but my family urges me to, but Im like naw, I dont want to, I want to just sit in there playing video games and watch tv] 5)-Frequent urination [ this can be a problem sometimes, but usually no] 6)=Blurred Vision [ when I wake up in the morning, usually, but during the day this happens sometimes] 7)=Numbness and/or tingling in the hands or feet [ when I go to bed at night my feet tingle, you know like thousands of little tiny bugs crawling all over you?] 8)=Slow heeling of minor scratches and wounds [ that definatly is happening to me that I am noticing more because I have little zit-like bumps, or bug bite-like (but their not bug bites) that are not going away very fast (usually one month instead of a week)] 9)=Dry or itchy skin[ I am always being told to get dead skin off of my face from my momma] 10)-Recurrent or hard-to-treat yeast infections[ I dont have this but I have had a urinary tract infection about a couple of months ago] 11)=Very irratable[ This is what bothers me most. about 10 minutes ago my sister came to me and give me a hug and said, “Im so glad to see you out of your room!” of course I slung her off of me yelling and telling her not to do it again or Id elbow her off me. I always seem to get in trouble because of my anger and irritableness.]

((If you noticed, the things that are occuring with me are two lines [=] instead of one [-]))

Some other things are that I need my space.[ No, not myspace, my own personal space.] If my sister gets car sick [and yeah, im the older sibling so I feel I should sit up front] she gets up in the front with momma and I , which makes me angry, then I show it usually with a sigh or HUUUHHH… which gets me in trouble. Then if I don’t want to go outside with my family, they think Im mad at them then they get mad at me which, again, causes yelling. Please help me ANYONE WITH DIABETES!!! Im desperate!!! If ANYBODY knows why this is going on and if I have Diabetes please answer this question!!!

One more thing, Im very afraid that no one will believe me. I will show my momma when she gets home in about 45 minutes about what I’ve found on the internet. I don’t want anyone thinking im just trying to be like Nick Jonas or my friend. This is serious.

–BTW- Im only 14, so dont say omg what are you doing on here if you really cared youd go to a doctor! I cant drive!! please I dont need anything that can get me upset because im a VERY VERY sensative person! I dont know if that has anything to do with diabetes or not but im very sensative.

I appreciate everyone who takes part in answering! =-)

your best bet is to stay away from anything that has a lot of sugar in it, cause if you dont you could put yourself in a coma, if you dont have the med’s for it. but first be sure, does any of your friend’s have it? If they do they should have a blood tester. Test your blood, and if over 120, Then go see a doctor ASAP. but if it’s 70-120 then don’t worry, youll be fine

ok, the BIGGEST indication that EVERYONE has is the thirst, this is honestly the BG neon sign. I have worked a lot with diabetes, in addition to the fact my husband is type 1 diabetic…

ok, some of the symptoms you have mentioned.

the excessive thirst is because the body is unable to process the sugar, as in, it can’t transport the glucose into your cells becuase it doesn’t have the insulin, which it kind of piggy backs on.

the freuqent urination, is a by product of the excessive thirst and the kidneys inability to process the fluids in the body properly.

the thrush V V common! this is becuase of the high sugar levels present in the urine, yeast LOVES sugar!

the lethargic tiredness - you sound like most normal teenagers I know!

blurred vision, is again, a by product of the prolonged hyperglycemia…it is where the blood pressure damages the eyes and causes poor vision when it starts to stabalise again…it does not go away after your first cup of tea in the morning…

poor healing - maybe you’re diet isn’t great, which would contribute to your tiredness…it would also mean you’re not getting enough proteins, which is what you body uses to heal itself.

the weight loss; yea, weight loss is excessive. as in 14 pounds on average and 1-2 weeks. why? becuase again, the glucose cannot be processed by the cells, so it had no way of being converted into fat, with this, it directly goes straight into the nephron of the kidneys, the body does not re-absorb any of it, and you pee it out…

the other symptoms of diabetes can be attributed to a million other problems.

you really need to go to a doctor ifyou are concerned. but diabetes isn’t that common (as in the type 1 which you are reffering to) but if you think you still may have it, then yes go to the doctor…

personally, I think it may be something else if you have lost that much weight, I would have thought maybe thyroid, but that wouldn’t tally with your energy levels…

the only way to check is getting a test. a 100 years ago they used to test urine by ‘tasting’ it, it was called the disease with sweet urine, if you don’t want to go to a docs and you really think there’s a problem, you could go back to old fashioned methodas? no? didn’t thin so, easier to get doc to check…

hope I answered at least some of your concerns or at least made you understand why these things happen..

FYI; if you have recently had a UTI, then you may not be completely over it yet..what anti-biotics were you on?

blood sugar levels for a none diabetic can range from 3mmhg to 8mmhg, in diabetics the range is smaller being 5mmhg to 7mmhg

IM 16 AND I JUST FOUND OUT I HAVE DIABETES {TYPE 1} IN SEPTEMBER OF 08. I REMEMBER BEING EXTREMELY THIRSTY ALL THE TIME AND ALWAYS FEELING LIKE I WAS GOING TO PASS OUT. I LOST A TOTAL OF 30 POUNDS WITHIN 2 AND A HALF MONTHS {ONE SUMMER!}. I’M GLAD THAT YOU ARE NOTICING THE SYPTOMS EARLY AND NOT WAITING UNTIL YOU PASS OUT LIKE I DID. THE DOCTORS SAID I COULD HAVE DIED HAD I NOT PASSED OUT AND I WAS IN THE ICU FOR A LONNG TIME. I RECOMMEND TO TELL YOUR PARENTS ABOUT YOUR CONCERNS IMMEDIATELY FOR THIS IS NOTHING TO PLAY AROUND WITH OR TO IGNORE.
