What determines the date Thanksgiving is on?

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, that and Christmas :)

Mine is Halloween! I love the time of year. Christmas is great too! & thanksgiving is a few days before my birthday :)

Wait, so why is it the 22nd & not the 29th?

Thanksgiving is celebrated every 4th Thursday of November in the United States. The date is related to the end of the harvest season (beginning of the winter season) or at least, it used to be that way back in the 17th century. For a while, most states celebrated Thanksgiving on the last Thursday, but after a bill was passed by FDR to make Thanksgiving a national holiday, it moved to the fourth Thursday of the month to help the economy and many businesses to make a profit during the first quarter of the fiscal year.

Regardless, some states still celebrate on the last Thursday but most have switched towards the national holiday date.
