Why do I keep getting "connection has timed out" and "cannot load page" messages when trying to browse the web?

It’s never done this before. It’s doing it every time I try to go to another page, and it’s being extremely slow. I’ve checked my internet connection (I have Charter and I am using a router)…. and it says it’s connected and I have excellent signal.

Before, when I would turn my laptop on, it would automatically connect. Now, even though I have set it to connect automatically… every time I get on, I have to manually connect.

I don’t know what’s going on. It’s been doing this ever since I moved back in. (I moved out for about a month, but I came back)…. does anyone know what the problem could be? I’ve already tried resetting my router and everything. It’s working fine, and had excellent signal.

Without looking at it I can’t tell you for sure but try to go to: Tools/Internet Options/ far right tab is the advance tab click on that one and select reset. This will put everything back together in the browser.

Next open up a command prompt by typing cmd in the run box on the start menu. In the box type in netsh winsock reset then restart your computer. If it still doesn’t work we can try something else.

Thanks. I followed your instructions, and I believe it worked. At least, for now. If it does it again any time soon, I’ll let you know.

Answer #3

uhm resetting wont really change anything in the browser….

now you should try resetting your modem, do a refresh on your network connection (right click on the 2 little pc’s and press repair) or call your ISP they might be doing some work on the lines or something so that might also be a problem

Answer #4

oh ya the socks reset might help ;)

Answer #5

Argh, well it started doing it again. :/ It does it off and on all day.

OK try this, go to start then right click on My Computer or Computer depending on which operating system you are using and select Manage. On the next screen select device manager. When device manager shows up expand the network adapters and right-click on the one for your wireless NIC and select uninstall. If it ask you if you want to delete the drivers say no. After doing this reboot and it will reinstall your NIC. Go ahead reset your connection up. What anti-virus software do you have? If it is norton/symantec you need to try and uninstall it then run the Norton removal tool. This sometimes messes up and will cause the problems you are seeing.

If this doesn’t fix it go to [link removed] and download the free version and do a scan with that to check for malware.

Answer #7

If it happens often, your computer might have a virus.
