How can you tell if colours match?

I know this might sound kind of weird, but I’m like, stupid with colours. Is there a trick to it or something? I basically ended up wearing all black as a kid when I was in like grade three because I though pink and red and orange and pink matched and my Mom kept changing my clothes on me, and now just recently I’m told black and brown don’t match? Which sucks because all my shirts are black and my favorite colour is brown. So any advice on this?

Answer #1

Who told you black and brown don’t match? Colours can be expressive or modest - it all depends on what you like. Some colours are said to clash, but as I see it, the colours you wear are an expression of your creativity…so why not wear pink with green?

Answer #2

If you want to match colors, you should follow rules of color coordination based on the Color Wheel. Examples:

Monochromatic - tints and/or shades of just one color i.e. blue, baby blue, sky blue, navy blue, dark blue.

Complementary - colors on the direct opposite sides of the wheel i.e. yellow-purple, green-red, blue-orange

Analogous Scheme - colors located one beside each other i.e. blue, purple-blue, blue-green

Triadic - uses three colors all at the same distance one from another on the color chart i.e. yellow, red, blue

Some of these colors won’t look good together, though. So it is important that you know which shades or tints of a particular hue looks coordinated with another hue.

Answer #3

I had two people tell me in the same day that black and brown don’t match XD I went and bought brown boots anyways though.

Answer #4

Pink and aquamarine or blue-green look wonderful together.

Answer #5

The problem being, I can’t tell what looks coordinated.

Answer #6

I agree that black and brown dont always looks good together, but it depends on how they are placed. I dont think that a solid brown top matches with black pants, however, with patterns in the shirt it can work.

Answer #7

First of all, don’t listen to what other people tell you. If you think you look good with wearing brown and black, then you must really look good on it. It’s not the color, it’s neither the price of what you wear, nor the style. It’s how you carry yourself. :)

Plus brown and black are both neutrals. It’s like wearing black and white. Nobody says black and white don’t look good together, right? That’s why they’re called neutrals. Because they’re the safest colors you can ever wear. :)

black goes with any color! I dont know what they have told you but brown is the limitted color here…personally I dont like brown with much other beige or black….that doesnt mean that other people dont wear orange with it or a denim blue with it as well…just not my preference of color! wear what ever you feel…hell if I listened to what people said & i would only wearing red & black but I adore blue & purple as well so should I not wear it because someone else said that red & black re the best colors on me? Hellz no…take a risk…i once got so tanned a few years ago & started wearing lemon yellow & lime green with a black pant…do you know how many compliments I got wearing lemon yellow…i was shocked myself! Me in lemon yellow or lime green…w00t?! Just go with what you feel…if others cant stomach it…tell them Temptress said f. off jealous b!atches! :P

Answer #11

Thank you for liking my answer. :)

Answer #12

brown and black definitely match, but only if you match them the right way. it depends on your style, dont let people tell you what to wear all the time. i personally think black and navy blue never match, and red and pink i dont do either. black, white, cream, and beige are neutral colors that can match pretty much anything.

Answer #13

Black and brown DO match! And so can red and orange, and red and pink. It just depends how you wear it all.
