what looks better to a college: a senior honors class or a sophomore AP class?

I was given the choice to take Government and Economics Honors or AP Euro…I didnt have an AP course in any year level so I figured it would look good for colleges but as soon as I walked into the class it was half seniors and half sophomores….so should I transfer out into Gov and Eco honors or stick with the AP course?

Wel for ur graduating cass they told us that colleges only look from junior classes and down cause ur senior year ur applying for colleges but what a college really looks at is ur gpa

Answer #2

First, jongyduran said that they only look at GPA; this is NOT true in a vast variety of cases. That said, they look to see that it’s not too low, but admissions folks do look at transcripts very carefully. Also, if you seriously lower your GPA your senior year, they can sometimes deny admission even if you’d been accepted. But she i right that your GPA will not be affected by either class.

Second, AP always looks good, and usually better than Honors. This is because the curriculum is standardized and more or less reliably good. If you never took an AP class at all and apply to college, it WILL be cause for concern unless your school didn’t offer AP classes. (Note: it will most certainly be problematic for top colleges, and less so for less academically rigorous colleges.)

So, I think you should definitely take the AP class. Don’t be discouraged by the sophomores; they could be very smart people regardless of class standing, and AP Euro does not have much in the way of prerequisites.

Also AP Euro is a good class! I really liked it when I took it, even though I usually really hate history classes.

Good luck:)
