Why are we told to not put bananas in the refrigerator?

Answer #1
  1. Bananas DO NOT turn “mushy” faster in the fridge. Only the SKIN turns brown which is actually it’s color at a fully ripened stage. If you want your banana’s to last longer PUT THEM IN THE FRIDGE. But only AFTER the are ripened. If you can get past the brown color you will get a very tasty, perfectly ripe and not mushy banana. The banana itself will NOT be brown. Leaving a banana on the counter and letting them turn black will make them mushy.

  2. The REASON so many people say not to put them in the fridge spans from a misleading song released by chaquita banana which states not to put bananas in the fridge. The banana company later stated their song was not entirely correct. The only reason they put that in their song is because everyone was trying to RIPEN them in the fridge. Once you put a green banana in the fridge it STOPS the ripening process and because of this many people were never getting ripe bananas. The song was released to help but ending up being no help at all.
