How to get dog to quit chewing stuff?

I saw that you mentioned to crate train your dog if he/she will not stop chewing, however, the only time he chews is when he is in his crate, he’s even chewed the plastic tray he lays on…I can’t put anything in there so he is stuck laying on the steel frame. I give him plenty of chew toys, bones all sorts of stuff and I can not leave him out of his crate when we are not home..any suggestions

why cant you leave him out of his crate?

sounds to me like he does not get enough play time, depending on his breed he may need a “job”. You may need to take him for walk to burn off engery, reward him for good behaviour, you must stay in charge,

they one thing about dog ownership is some people think they can just buy a dog and keep it in there house and the dog will know how to be good, It does not work this way, We are the ones that bring them into OUR world and now we need to set rules and boundries so they can also live a happy life in our world. If a dog acts out it is more then likely they are unhappy. I do mean this towards you. I am just giving you a idea on how hard it must be for a dog to “understand” what we want from it. but we also need to stay true to the breed and give them what they need.

Hope this helps

He’s bored in there…

“A tired dog is a good dog”…like Harley says, give him plenty of play time (chasing a toy, walking, etc)…when he’s out of his crate, so that the time spent in the crate is mostly sleeping…If he’s a pup, a lot of this will eventually disappear…

What kind of Dog do you have, and how old? The reason I ask is that some breeds are more prone to chew on things (like Pits and other bully breeds) and of course a dog who is still cutting teeth, or cutting new teeth are going to chew a lot more. Are this things that you are giving him to chew the same “consistency” as what he likes to chew? If the dog really likes to chew on hard thing like plastic and stuff maybe you could find something hard like a hoof or something…
