Do they celebrate bonfire night in USA?

Answer #1

I don’t think they do, because it only affected England.. like the 4th of July only affected America, so we don’t celebrate it, so I assume they don’t celebrate the 5th of November

Answer #2

hahah okay thanks :)

Answer #3

No, they don’t and I miss it terribly!! No-one here as heard of Guy Fawkes. Halloween here is HUGE. I guess it’s the closest thing.

Answer #4

Nope, the celebrate it in the UK and some Commonwealth countries.

Answer #5

In all honesty, Halloween is nothing to do with Bonfire Night.. What does All Hallow’s Eve have to do with the guy who tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament? XD

Answer #6

Nothing. It’s just close in date and close because it’s done/enjoyed more in the dark.

Answer #7

I think its a British thing to burn stuff pointlessly in the name of fun for one day and then for 364 days of the year go on about recycling coz they care about the planet….But its fun.

Answer #8

My mother in Puerto Rico used to do a big bonfire around all saints day. I don’t know why.

Answer #9

Yeah we don’t celebrate it. We celebrate Thanksgiving November 23. Halloween October 31, and Independence Day (4th of July) July 4.

Answer #10

It’s not “to burn stuff” It’s to celebrate the death of the guy who tried to blow up the Houses of Parliament. Some people go really big when they celebrate it, making huge bonfires then putting a stuffed ‘Guy Fawkes’ on top to burn. We also set off fireworks and stuff, and it’s traditional to eat jacket potatoes and whatnot.

Answer #11

well said natalie! its not bloody pointless :D

Answer #12

He has a point, probably most British people don’t know the history behind the 5th November and just want to have a fire and spend crap loads of money on fireworks.

Answer #13

well most kids will learn about it at school

Answer #14

I learnt about it in school.. and I know the history.. as do most kids, like Jessica said.

Answer #15

My main point was ….that although its Fun the way us British celebrate the capture/life of the man Guy Fawks? by having social get togethers around a big fire with fire works and other mass polluting things…every one forgets the damage to the Environment, all that smoke aint no good for that global warming thing…let alone the poor wild animals that must be wondering wtf is going on what with the fire works….but its fun for us,and if we recycle stuff every over day of the year our conscience is clear regarding the environment=confusion. and Jess,Nat,hi…you may have learnt a lot at school but Jess can you tell me what the Scots think of Guy Fawkes…he didn’t seem to like many people ,including the Scottish…i copy and paste his words from wiki….Fawkes answered that his intention was “to blow you Scotch beggars back to your native mountains.” Did they tell you that at school?….He sounds to me like a religious terrorist similar to our modern day al quida type…I hope any one getting all historical about the day is a celebration of democracy being saved as the guy seems to be a bit of a nutter…?

Answer #16

well ‘badboyvibes’ im from scotland, and maybe thats why we enjoy burning him!
