Cat urinating on the furniture

My mom has a cat, she just moved not evven a year ago. Another cat was brought into the home and then went to be de-clawed; when the second cat came home the liter box was replaced and her original cat started peeing on the sofa, how can we stop her from doing it?

Answer #1

use a spary waterbottle, but you must catch the cat in the action of peeing on the furniture. the cat is uncomfortable and is just trying to claim its territory so the new cat wont take it. be quick though, get a spray bottle and fill it with cold water. if your cat likes water, then try filling a can with some pennies and put tape over the opening so nothing comes out. so when the cat start to wee, throw the can at the cat or just shake it. the loud noise will surly startle the cat enough to make it stop right then and there.

Answer #2

Get hold of some citronella oil (available at your chemist) and spray it on the affected area on your sofa after washing it. Citronella oil is a fairly pleasant smelling oil to us, but is revolting to cats, and will probably discourage her cat from doing her business on the sofa again. It shouldn’t stain the sofa’s upholstery, but spray a little on non-obvious part of the upholstery just to be safe.
