How to get my cat to stop eating hairbands?

My cat.. where do I begin. He’s very hyper.. very insane. He races across the house over couches knocking over everything. He acts like a dog and what REALLY gets on my nerves is he eats hairbands.. Every size/shape/colour. I know that this is very bad because they can get tangled in his stomach or intestines or something, but he usually just throws them up. I can’t seem to hide all of them enough. Any suggestions other than to hide the hairbands from him!?

My cat is currently in hospital with the same problem. The amount of stuff that was pulled from her stomach - hairbands, ribbons and some unidentified stuff. Always hair stuff though. Apart from the chili powder (which I don’t like the idea of, and I don’t want to smell like chili powder for the rest of her life) or the hiding (if she is determined to find stuff, she will) are there any other ideas? And how effective has the hiding been for those that have tried that? Also, we are thinking of getting pet insurance.

Answer #3

hide all headbands cats are like babys you got to keep them safe from things that are no good.give him toys and cat nip.is he young he will clam down with age and if not fixed I would get him fixed its good for him and your house in the long run…

Answer #4

Keep all the hairbands tucked away in a case with a zipper. My kitty had a very expensive surgery last week to remove appx. 20 hairbands from her stomach. She was very sick. Please learn from my mistake and keep your kitty safe!! : )

Answer #5

maybe you can get him some cat toys so he won’t play/eat your hairbands.

Answer #6

well, I know some people won’t agree with this, but anything that I don’t want my dog tearing up or chewing on ( he likes chewing on the doors and shoes) Temporarily put chili powder or pepper on them (you can always wash headbands) and it will get up in their nose and make them sneeze, they don’t like it but my dog hasn’t had a problem ever since. Not sure if it works the same for cats.
