Can I move out of my parents place when I'm 18 & they cant stop me?

Okay I am 18 years old & my parents are keeping me on lock down & lying to me about I can not leave there house for another because I have Tourette Syndrome, & using me as there own little slave. Are they lying to me, can I leave there house? They are saying I am not able to take care of myself, Which I can cook clean, everything an adult should do. What do I do, I am so confused.

Answer #1

Well my fiancee is going into the military, so he can afford medically anything I need. So I think that will be alright… besides they are saying everything they can think of for me to not marry him or move because to them I am not stable enough to things

Answer #2

Yes you can leave!…as long as you have a safe place to say they can not keep you there!. And you should ask your doctor before you do because they may need you to have a care taker now because it has changed.

Answer #3

Woooww wait.. I didnt read the tourette syndrome. Now if you have a major case of this ilness you might want to stay home because yuour parents cn support you with financial medicine and health care. your parents make it seem easy living independently but is not. You need to have a good job to mantain yourself. Its better to stay home for nw and just take advantage of wt your parents have to offer. A good house, food in the fridge and tv and a nice comfy bed. don’t take this lightly. Even if they are a pain in the butt … just bare with it . don’t move out. ;)

Answer #4

Tourettes Syndrome is not a disorder in where you need a caretaker/guardian. You can leave on your own free will and live by yourself. You are now an Adult.

Answer #5

OMMGGG OFCOURSE YOU CAN HONEY! YOU ARE A YOUNG ADULT AND CAN MAKE DECISIONS ON YOUR OWN WITHOUT PARENT CONSENT. THE ONLY THING YOU’RE NOT ALLOWED TO DO IS DRINK! but all you need is a “house” obviuosly! and thats it lol.. your set baby… ;)
p.s learn your rights! take careee

Answer #6

But my illness is not bad, know one notices that I have it anymore… I dont take medication anymore because I know how to control everything. I dont go to the doctors because they cant afford it

Answer #7

Honestly if you really have an illness that can impair you then you mayyy not be able to move out till you older or prove to the state you can take care of your self, est est. So I would say try CALMLY talking to your parents, have a MATURE discussion about it.

Good luck

Answer #8

If you’re able to take care of yourself in every way, they shouldn’t keep you in the house. They probably think that you can’t. Prove to them that you can do so. Plus, they shouldn’t use a disorder you may have to keep you under their roof. And also, at age 18, you are in fact legally able to move out on your own, if you’re ready though.

Good Luck :)

Answer #9

You can definitly go. There is absolutly no reason why anybody cant leave home once there 18. Even you have tourette sydrome you would still be well capible of taking care of yourself and if in the odd chance that you had a very very severe case of it where you were pysically unable to care for yourself correctly well thats what care staff are for. It is extremly important for people with disabilitys to become their own carers and be responsible for theimselves because you would be amazed at how independant people like that can be if there given the chance. Xo:)

Answer #10

I think that you can go. because if you know how to write and do your hair (very pretty lol) then you can do anything!! I just think that they dont want there “lil baby girl” to move away. you know? so they aint lyin but they want to keep you. juss give it another try and make shure that your FULLY able to take care of urself as in eduication and evrything before you decide to tell your parents that your a young adult and have the right to move! good luck girl!! =]

Answer #11

ohhh okay then go for it!!! like I said though… good job.. car and you re set to go ;)
